Fasil Ghebbi in Gondar is a heritage site featuring the remains of a castle-like fortress city and was once the residence of the Ethiopian emperor Fasilides and his successors. Founded in the 16th and 17th century, many palaces and temples were built in the city, with some of them surviving to the present day. The city was surrounded by a 900m long wall, and it includes, amongst others, buildings such as Fasilides Castle, Empress Metwab's Castle, a library, a banqueting hall, and three churches.
