Jahazi House, named after the historical large trading dhows that brought Lamu its trading wealth, stands right on the edge of the Indian Ocean in a large garden of frangipani, fruit trees and shrubs. The house is built of coral block, plastered in the local neru finish, tinted a soft ochre-yellow. It is designed along traditional lines around an inner courtyard, which holds a very private swimming pool, cooling the public rooms and bedrooms.

Kusini House, named after the South Monsoon Wind that gently blows through the palms trees, is tranquility itself. A secluded hideaway, nestled on the beach, it is protected from the outside world by its tall white walls, which offer complete privacy to its visitors.

The grassed, frangipani-studded walled garden frames a large freshwater swimming pool, which forms the heart of the Kusini house experience and has been home to many of Kusini’s famous parties.

Wazi Dubu is the southern-most property on Kizingoni Beach. Its spacious, cool design and palm fringed position have made it a great favorite with family visitors and party groups alike.

Soft yellow walls, colourful shrubs and tall coconut palms around the central pool courtyard, allow complete privacy and security, while the three elevated communal areas – the breakfast roof, sundowner baraza and main dining terrace – provide huge views of the ocean, the beach and the passing dhows.

The palatial master suite, dominated by a huge carved mirror reflecting the facing ocean, has a breath taking view over the pool, the beach and the sea. Also on the first floor is a dining terrace with a table long enough to seat 16 comfortably, the perfect party venue!

The house has four doubles and two twins, with one twin off the master bedroom suitable for children.

Kuni Jogoo house stands on a small sand dune, allowing a 180 panoramic view over the beach and channel. Built in a U shape around the pool and gardens, the house offers exceptionally spacious public areas and large terraces. It is tastefully furnished with antique wooden chests, teak dining tables, Lamu tiled 4-poster beds and bright kikoy safari chairs.

A curved private, coral staircase leads directly down onto the beach in front of the house, through an old Lamu door set in the coral studded wall.

Kaskazi House is the latest and greatest of the Kizingoni Beach houses. It is named after the northerly monsoon wind which blows in the summer months, and which for thousands of years carried dhows to Lamu from India and Arabia, laden with treasure for trade. Kaskazi is imaginatively designed and sits back from the beach with wonderful sea views and is surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens.

The house consists of four towers, around an elevated, 16m infinity pool. The two front towers house four spacious bedrooms, while the back two towers house the communal areas, kitchen and the sumptuous master bedroom, with its star- gazing bathtub and outside shower. Shady makuti-covered terraces run between the four areas, providing privacy for the pool area, while allowing the breeze to blow through and gently sway the hanging beds.

Pepo means wind in Kiswahili – the elevated position and airy design of Pepo House ensures that it always catches the lightest of Indian Ocean breezes.

Arriving at the house via the private beach path – you first see the welcoming pool, positioned between two mature indigenous shade trees, the outside dining pavilion and the swinging beds. A generous veranda offers an expandable seating area, which leads off the internal ground floor baraza area.

High Tide, Low Tide, Neap Tide, Spring Tide
The four Tide kabanas are elevated single room units, with coral foundations and half walls, kanji remaining wall and makuti roofed. The bedroom has a large netted built in bed, looking out over the upper terrace to the sea. They are all the same design, with a shower room, basin and loo behind the upper bedroom and a living area underneath with 2 swing beds, table with 4 chairs and additional seating. Neap Tide has a small kitchenette. Positioned along the beachfront, they offer complete privacy with perfect sea views.
