The Shimba Hills National Reserve is home to one of the largest coastal forests in East Africa. The reserve is made up of lush woodlands, open grassland and coastal rainforest and offers stunning views across to the Indian Ocean. Situated only 30 km from Mombasa and the tropical beaches of Diana, Shimba boasts more than 500 elephants and an array of giraffe, buffalo, the rare Roan antelope and Kenya's only population of sable antelope. The combination of grasslands and forests mean an abundance of varied birdlife, boasting over 100 recorded species.
