Resting at the foot of the snow-tipped peak of Cayambe Volcano, Cayambe is the third largest Andean town in the Pichincha Province. Considered to be Ecuador's flower capital, this charming village is tucked away in the scenic flower-strewn hills of the Cordillera Central Mountain Range. It serves as an excellent stopover en route to Otavalo and provides a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. Dubbed ‘Cookie Town’, visitors can look forward to sampling the local delicacy, the beloved buttery biscochos (biscuits), a country favourite; as well as enjoying some locally-made cheese. Other popular attractions include: the waterfalls of Cariacu, and the virgin forests of Paquiestancia. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch the annual celebrations of the Fiesta de San Pedro and take in spectacular views from the top of the volcano.
