Set 70 kilometres east of Mthatha on South Africa’s Wild Coast (in the Eastern Cape), Port St. John’s boasts magnificent natural scenery, gorgeous beaches, a relaxed atmosphere and a long list of wonderful outdoor activities on offer. With two ‘gateway’ mountains, mighty Umzimvubu River, dramatic gorge and lush forests and mangrove swamps, the town offers a world of diverse flora and fauna and ample opportunities for hiking, horse riding, canoeing, fishing, golf, river cruises, and golf. First Beach is excellent for fishing, and is where the river meets the sea, while Second Beach is a fantastic swimming spot with a lagoon. The town is also known for its spectacular handmade crafts, with the Pondo People shop on the east side of the Mzimvubu River arguably the best on the Wild Coast.
