The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda is situated in the Inle Lake area. It is a highly revered monastery and is home to five ancient Buddha images that are over 800 years old and completely covered in gold leaf. At the centre of the pagoda, there is an ornate shrine with a pedestal on which these images are kept. Annually, during the 18-day pagoda festival, four of the Buddha images are transported in the Royal Karaweik barge and taken to 14 villages around the lake.
