The small but lively town of Yandabo lies in central Myanmar’s Bagan/Mandalay region, on the picturesque banks of the Irrawaddy River. Village life centres around pottery making, fishing and farming, with all members of the community taking part. The red earthenware pottery, made in the traditional way, draws travellers for its beauty and craft, and are transported all over the country by boat. Take scenic boat rides along the river, and soak up enthralling sunsets over the water with mouth-watering authentic food in hand. A trip to neighbouring Pan Nyo, roughly 15 minutes by jetty boat, allows travellers to see the hordes of buffaloes being walked to the fields at sunrise. Historically, it is here that the brutal peace treaty was signed with the British, beginning 125 years of colonial rule.
