Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservation, located just 90 minutes from Harare, is a pioneering conservation sanctuary dedicated to protecting Zimbabwe’s endangered wildlife. Founded in 1948 and established as a conservancy in 1972, it is renowned for its world‑class black rhino breeding programme, having raised and successfully released 11 black rhinos back into the wild. Today, Imire safeguards nine black and four white rhinos, is home to three orphaned elephants, and serves as a release site for a ground‑breaking cheetah rewilding initiative. Visitors can experience close‑up encounters through day trips or overnight stays at Imire Lodge, with guided game drives, rhino and elephant interactions, and exceptional hospitality in a tranquil setting. Through tourism, volunteer programmes and community partnerships, Imire promotes a holistic approach to conservation that supports wildlife, protects natural ecosystems and empowers local communities living in the surrounding area.
