A tour through the neighborhoods of Barra and Rio Vermelho includes visits to the Fort of Santa Maria, the Memorial Casa de Jorge Amado, and the Rio Vermelho Market, known as Ceasinha. Overlooking Porto da Barra beach, the Fort of Santa Maria was originally built to defend the Bay of All Saints and now serves as a cultural space featuring an interactive exhibition by renowned photographer and ethnographer Pierre Verger.
In the lively Rio Vermelho district, considered one of Salvador’s most bohemian neighborhoods, the visit continues at “A Casa do Rio Vermelho”—the former residence of writers Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai. The memorial offers insights not only into the lives of these literary figures, but also into the characters and stories that helped shape Bahia’s unique identity.
The experience concludes at Ceasinha Market, a vibrant showcase of Bahian handicrafts and regional gastronomy. There will be time for shopping, sampling local fruits, and enjoying a typical lunch (included).
