Overlooking South Bay in Baku, Azerbaijan, Bibi Heybat Mosque is a recreation of an ancient 13th-century mosque. The present structure was built in the 1990s after the original structure was destroyed in 1936 by the Bolsheviks. Bibi Heybat Mosque was built over the tomb of the seventh Shiite Imam's daughter and it is home to the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum. It is one of Azerbaijan's major monuments of Islamic architecture and a spiritual centre for regional Muslims.
