Nishat Bagh, known as the Garden of Joy, is a magnificent Mughal garden set on the eastern bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar. Designed in 1633 by Asif Khan, it is celebrated for its twelve terraced levels, each symbolising a sign of the zodiac and offering sweeping views of the lake and the Zabarwan Mountains. A central water channel, fed by natural springs, flows through the garden, cascading over fountains that enhance its serene ambience. Lined with majestic chinar and cypress trees, and seasonally adorned with vibrant blooms such as tulips and roses, Nishat Bagh is a tranquil retreat reflecting classical Mughal symmetry and artistry. With its harmonious blend of nature, history, and scenic beauty, it remains one of Kashmir’s most captivating and beloved Mughal landscapes.
