Located within Belize's Greater Mayan Mountains, Chiquibul Forest Reserve is situated adjacent to the border between Guatemala and Belize and covers a total area of 59,822 hectares. First designated as a forest reserve in 1956 that covered an area of 184,925.9 hectares, Chiquibul Forest Reserve was later reclassified in 1991 with parts of the reserve now being Chiquibul National Park and the Caracol Archeological Reserve. The reserve is the largest managed reserve in Belize.
