Set near the confluence of the Copper and Chitina rivers, the riverside hamlet of Chitina is dominated by the majestic Mount Blackburn in beautiful Alaska. Once a bustling railroad station, today it serves as an excellent jumping off point to the spectacularly scenic Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, which is the largest national park in Alaska; as well as a gateway for travellers embarking on the rugged yet scenic McCarthy Road. It features excellent surrounding scenery, great hiking trails and an abundance of wildlife viewing opportunities. Other highlights include: fishing in Copper River for the famed and sought-after Copper River Salmon, visiting the historic tinsmith building which has been turned into an art gallery and viewing historic photographs and learn about local history at the Chitina Ranger Station.
