Inwa is situated approximately 21 kilometres from Mandalay. The city was the capital of successive Burmese kingdoms from 1365 to 1842. After a series of major earthquakes in 1839, the city was destroyed and abandoned. Visitors may explore the ancient city either by a horse cart tour, or by bicycle, and motorbike. Areas of interest include the pagodas, villages, and Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery.
