Robben Island lies 9km from the shores of Cape Town. Once a mark of shame in the history of our land, it is now one of South Africa's top tourist attractions and a symbol of triumph over adversity.

A 3.5-hour-long tour of the museum on Robben Island begins at the Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. After a 30-minute ferry ride, visitors are taken on a tour of the former maximum-security jail by former political prisoners, who draw a vivid picture of life in incarceration. A 45-minute bus ride around the island acquaints visitors with its history.

This tour continues with a drive-through visit of Cape Town and then ends with a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain.

Table Mountain provides Cape Town with a uniquely beautiful backdrop - on a clear day, this world-famous landmark is visible 200 kilometres out at sea. A quick cable-car ride to the level but rocky summit provides breathtaking views over the entire peninsula and beyond. Besides its aesthetic appeal, the mountain is home to one of the smallest of the six floral kingdoms, hosting approximately 2620 species of indigenous flora - some of which are endemic. Fauna includes a variety of wildlife including baboon, porcupine, genet, mongoose, fallow deer, grey squirrel, and colonies of rock rabbit. Birdlife is abundant and approximately 150 species have been identified.
