The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in New York City. This world-famous statue is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. On October 28, 1886, the statue was dedicated as a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States. The copper statue stands 93 metres tall and can be seen from New Jersey and New York City. This statue has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Today, visitors enjoy learning more about the statue at the adjacent museum, while also having the opportunity to climb 377 steps to the crown of the statue.
