Captain James Cook's Cottage was originally constructed in 1755 in Yorkshire, England by the parents of Captain James Cook. In 1933, purchased by Russell Grimwade, the cottage was deconstructed and packed into crates and barrels for shipping to Melbourne. Cooks’ Cottage was reassembled and officially opened in Fitzroy Gardens, Victoria, in 1934. The cottage became a popular tourist attraction, and an English cottage garden was established around the house, adding to it’s period reconstruction. It combines a modern interpretation of Captain Cook’s life and adventures with centuries old relics, all representative of the period.
