The Akureyri Park and Botanic Garden is home to over 6600 alien taxa and around 420 species of native taxa. The park was opened in 1912 with the Botanic section added in 1957 and currently, it houses a variety of foreign as well as Icelandic flora, and new species are regularly added to the collections. The gardens also feature delightful fountains and tiny lakes, as well as a cafe with a large patio where visitors can enjoy refreshments while relaxing in natural surroundings.
