Situated in the heart of Berlin, the Berlin Wall Memorial was constructed as a place of remembrance of how the wall destroyed people's lives as well as urban space, and how it separated families and friends. Located on Bernauer Strasse, the wall extends along 1.4 kilometres of the former border strip, and it is the only section of the Berlin Wall that was preserved in its full length. The grounds and the memorial are open to visitors and guided tours are held on a regular basis. Operating hours are Mondays to Sundays from 8:00 to 22:00.
