An intimate eight-suite lodge located in a private, pristine area of the Timbavati which adjoins the world-famous Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Situated overlooking a permanent water hole, teeming with game, guest suites are a very generous 140sqm/1500sqft with two suites also having a plunge pool. One of the suites is two-bedroomed, ideal for couples or a small family (children over 12).
We keep things discreet! Makanyi has a limit of just three game drive vehicles, which with an area of 8000 hectares to cover means you’ll feel like you’re truly in the wilderness!

Our 2-Bedroom Marula Suite sleeps a maximum of 4 guests, ideal for small group of friends or couples travelling together. It is set slightly away from the main lodge and has a bush view, a large living room with cable TV which opens on to a vast outdoor deck with its own private pool with sun loungers. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with their own shower and separate bath. Even though it has its own kitchen, dining area and outdoor boma all meals are based at the main lodge. Please note a private vehicle and guide is not included.

Private photographic safaris are booked through Makanyi and designed for guests who are looking for the full attention of the professional wildlife photographer / tutor to maximize their learning and photographic skills. This is open to and suitable for all levels of photographers, be it first time users or more advanced.
We can adapt our vehicle with specialised equipment for professional photography (equipment not included, to be rented separately). A professional wildlife photographer / tutor is available for a minimum of a 2-day immersive photographic safari. Guests’ can rent camera equipment from Africa Photographic Services (advance notice required).
Pre-booking of our private vehicle and the professional wildlife photographer / tutor is essential. This is subject to availability and rates are on request. T&Cs apply.
There are two thrilling game drives every day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This is your opportunity to meet and photograph the incredible animals in the heart of their natural habitat.
Enjoy an educational walk in the bush with your guide and follow the animal tracks, discover hundreds of intriguing plants and bushes, and learn about the tiniest creatures. You might even sneak up to a rhino on foot, which is a thrilling experience!
