Set in the northwestern part of La Rioja province in northern Spain, Haro is a small but prosperous provincial centre at the heart of the popular La Rioja wine region. This bustling little town boasts a charming Old Quarter lined with numerous historic palaces, wineries, shops, taverns, and restaurants. The impressive Santo Tomas Church dates back to the early 1500s and features an exquisite baroque bell tower. Haro is commonly referred to as an open-air art museum due to its many bronze and stone statues depicting traditional trades dotted throughout the town’s public spaces. Don’t miss the annual Batalla del Vino (Wine Battle) festival, when visitors flock to join the otherwise mild-mannered citizens of the town in drinking copious amounts of wine and throwing it all over each other in the name of Saint Juan, Saint Felices and Saint Pedro.
