Visitors to Tanzania can get a glimpse into the culture of the Maasai people by visiting a Masai Village, or boma. A traditional boma is a small family village with huts made from mud and cow dung and surrounded by a fence of thorny bushes to protect the inhabitants and their livestock from predators and other tribes. The Masai Villages can be visited by tourists, and it is recommended that visitors be accompanied by a guide. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the villagers, interact with them, and participate in some of their cultural activities to experience their way of life. Both day-trips and overnight experiences are offered.
