Located at the University of Coimbra, the Botanical Garden Coimbra University is a place of tranquillity and is full of areas to explore. The Botanical Garden consists of a variety of garden spaces, ranging from the Alameda das Tílias, a walkway surrounded by trees to the Systemic school, which is home to a variety of aromatic and medical plants. The largest area, occupying two-thirds of the garden, is the Kills. The kills is partially open to the public and is composed of dense vegetation and exotic trees. The Botanical Garden is home to various statues, including one of Julio Henriques, who was the director of the Botanical Garden and headed up various scientific expeditions with the objective of collecting Portuguese flora. In the educational field, the Botanical Garden promotes environmental and cultural education programs, sensitising individuals to environmental issues.
