Mapua is a popular tourist retreat on the north coast of New Zealand’s South Island, just 30 minutes from the hub of Nelson on State Highway 60. Visitors can look forward to enjoying some unique boutique shopping, excellent restaurants, celebrated vineyards and numerous exciting outdoor activities. The centre of the action is Mapua Wharf, where you can check out the Kereru Gallery and sample the town’s culinary delights. Cyclists can catch a small ferry from the wharf to offshore Rabbit Island, which features a network of mountain bike routes. Finally, Mapua is known as the starting-point for the highly popular Tasman Great Taste Trail. This gentle, four-day cycle route links together a number of towns, vineyards and beaches along the scenic northern coast.
