Los Nevados National Natural Park is situated in the coffee-growing Andino region of Colombia, within the Cordillera Central of the Colombian Andes. The multi-altitude landscapes are ecologically important, providing water to the surrounding areas and encompass volcanoes, mountains, cloud forests, paramo (high mountain plains), glaciers, and shrublands dotted with the distinctive ‘frailejones’. The park is particularly well-known for its excellent multi-day hikes, as well as its wonderful skiing opportunities in winter. Must-sees include the hiking trails up Nevado del Ruiz, Nevado de Santa Isabel, and Nevado del Tolima, as well as the spectacular Laguna del Otún, filled with trout and known as a holy place in the Quimbaya culture. Another breathtaking and fascinating sacred destination within the park is the Valley of Tombs or Desert of Solitude. Look out for Spectacled Bears, Puma, Tigers, and rare Andean Condor.
