Set in the famous Cocora Valley in Salento, Quindio, Columbia, the Acaime Nature Reserve is famous for its hummingbirds, palm trees, stunning paths, and horse riding. The valley is regarded as the cradle of the Wax Palm, known to live for up to 120 years and grow up to 60 metres tall. A range of trails are on offer, and the reserve makes a good access point to the famous Valle de Cocora Loop, seven kilometres away if travelling anticlockwise. Visitors can explore the trails as part of a guided horseback tour, which climbs through magnificent landscapes of creeks, rivers, suspension bridges, rocky areas and thick forest. Adventurers can also enjoy coffee plantation tours. The park’s 15 species of brightly coloured, over-zealously friendly hummingbirds provide a spectacular sight as they dart close to travellers and drink at the many dispensers.
