Located in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania, the Old Fort, or Ngome Kongwe in Swahili, is a historic fortification. It holds the distinction of being the oldest building in Stone Town and is a major attraction for visitors. The fort is strategically positioned on the main seafront, adjacent to the House of Wonders, another landmark building in the city, and overlooks the Forodhani Gardens. Today, the Old Fort is the headquarters of the Zanzibar International Film Festival. Its courtyard has been transformed into a cultural centre, housing curio shops that sell a variety of souvenirs, including paintings and sculptures. The fort also features an open-air amphitheatre where live dance and music performances are held during the festival.
