Located at the northern end of Nungwi Beach in Zanzibar, the Nungwi Mnarani Aquarium is a marine conservation facility focused on the rehabilitation and protection of sea turtles. The aquarium features a lagoon, separated from the Indian Ocean by a line of ancient reef rocks, which provides a natural environment for the turtles. A wooden pier extends into one side of the lagoon, allowing visitors to view the turtles up close and learn about their conservation. Smaller pools are dedicated to nurturing baby and juvenile turtles, while larger vivariums house other native wildlife. The site also serves as a sanctuary for injured or sick turtles, where they are treated and rehabilitated. Educational exhibits about marine ecosystems, coral reefs, and the lifecycle of sea turtles offer insight into ongoing conservation efforts. Visitors can interact with the turtles, feed them, and learn the importance of preserving marine life.
