Lapa Rios is located in the heart of the wild Osa Peninsula. The lodge protects 1,000 acres of Central America’s last remaining tropical lowland rainforest.
Here at the lodge, we believe that no matter how you cut it, a rainforest left standing is worth more. Long before the pillars of sustainable tourism had been established, Lapa Rios was envisioned as a project whose objective it would be to protect its endangered surroundings. Today, the 17-bungalow lodge preserves more than 1,000 acres of primary and secondary rainforest, and assists in the development of the local community. Since its opening in 1993, Lapa Rios has won numerous awards and has been featured in the press worldwide.
In this incredible environment, guests can look forward to once-in-a-lifetime rainforest adventures, wildlife encounters and ocean activities. While some come with a bold spirit for exploring and others in search of nature’s tranquillity, both will find myriad opportunities to connect with this enigmatic ecosystem.
Perched above the forest canopy and with sweeping ocean views, each of our four new Lapa Villas simultaneously immerses guests in the spectacular wild nature of the Osa Peninsula. All around you is primary rainforest brimming with bird and mammal wildlife, merging with the turquoise palette of the Golfo Dulce (sweet gulf), home to whales, dolphins, sea turtles and three point breaks coveted by surfers. Take in the perfection of this natural paradise, accompanied by the call of monkeys passing through the treetops, the chatter of brilliantly colored Macaws overhead, and the splash of a breaching Humpback whale or diving sea bird.
Each stand-alone villa features smooth hardwood flooring and elegant natural accents. Floor to ceiling screens and a wide wrap-around deck ensure stunning views. The outdoor terrace has its own private rain shower, a refreshing plunge pool, and comfortable chairs and lounges. Indoors you’ll be greeted with authentic-design furniture, a living area with a daybed plus a beverage nook with gourmet Costa Rican coffee. The master bedroom features one King bed with Simmons Beautyrest mattresses, fine linens, and eco-fans. The villa has a spacious bathroom with two solar-heated rain showers. Lapa Villas can accommodate up to 5 persons and are perfect for a family rainforest adventure.
For couples or friends who want the best, our two new Premier Villas offer unparalleled comfort while immersing guests in one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Each private standalone suite is surrounded by the rainforest canopy and its abundance of wildlife grants uninterrupted views of the brilliant blue Golfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf). Awake to a symphony of birdsongs, monkeys chattering in the treetops, and the occasional splash of a breaching whale or dolphin on the horizon.
Private wraparound terraces and comfortable lounge seating plus a refreshing outdoor rain shower. Indoors you’ll find floor to ceiling views with screens to let in the ocean breezes, efficient eco-fans, a comfortable day bed & reading nook and either one king bed. Unwind and relax in exquisite luxury with elegant hardwood floors and furnishings, fine linen, and top of the line orthopedic mattresses. Even the bathrooms, with spacious solar heated rain showers and organic amenities, offer views of the rainforest and ocean.
Share the treetops with the animals of the rainforest.
Suspended above the treetops with 240-degree views of the pristine Osa Peninsula coastline, you’ll rise each morning to a spectacular panorama of the rainforest canopy and the shimmering Pacific Ocean. More spacious than our bungalows, these suites are also better sheltered from the elements, with eco-efficient AC and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and screens.
Each suite opens onto a private wraparound deck perfectly positioned for privacy and scenery. Each has a hanging daybed and comfortable chairs to take in the magnificent canvas of nature laid out before you. Hardwood floors, hand-crafted furniture and accessories, and the finest linens await indoors. There’s plenty of room to accommodate up to four guests, with a King-size bed and an optional Full or Twin bed according to your group’s size.
Even the bathrooms invoke serenity with indoor and outdoor solar-heated showers, stone and hardwood accents, naturally sourced amenities, and luxurious bathrobes. We’ll extend the pampering even further by delivering steaming Costa Rican coffee to your suite every morning and tea, beverages, and snacks every afternoon.
