One of Thailand’s lesser explored and largely agricultural provinces, Phetchaburi lies along the border with Myanmar, where the jungle-covered peaks of the Tanaosri Mountains form a natural division between the two countries. To the east, 80 kilometres of tropical coastline runs along the Gulf of Thailand, taking in the popular resort town of Cha-Am, where visitors can enjoy a long sandy beach, diverse watersports activities and lively nightlife. The province’s Kaeng Krachan National Park offer scenic trekking routes through steamy rainforests to glittering caves and tiered waterfalls, while Phetchaburi city itself, despite its modern conveniences, is a treasure chest of ancient temples, elegant palaces and archaeological sites dating as far back as the 12th century.
