The Tam Giang lagoon is the largest lagoon in Southeast Asia and also considered to be the richest source of flora and fauna in this area. Over 300,000 people live and work along its shores.

The lagoon is just 15 km from Hue and offers a wide variety of interesting pursuits such as going out on a fishing boat with the local fisherman to learn about the traditional Vietnamese fishing methods, watching the local women make fishing nets, the art of bamboo weaving, or visiting the village of Ngu My Thanh along the lagoon to stop at the traditional floating market which is open in the early mornings.
