Mabamba Swamp  is a large wetland area on the shores of Lake Victoria and is a favourable habitat for 260 recorded bird species. It’s a great location for birding enthusiasts who may just spot the intriguing Shoebill - a rare sight indeed. This is a must do tour for avid bird watchers as it is one of Uganda’s most popular bird watching sites and home to the rare shoebill stork.

Our speedboat seats max 12 people and takes 30-40 mins from Banga Beach pier to the swamp. On arrival, board a traditional wooden canoe to navigate your way through the swamps and experience the diverse birdlife of the swamp.  The vegetation along the shore provides a perfect breeding ground for a wide variety of birds including the papyrus gonolek, white-winged warbler, blue swallow and many other species that thrive in Mabamba’s swamp habitat.

The tour takes approximately 3-4 hours in total and is best enjoyed in the early morning when the Shoebills stalk their prey, or late afternoons when the day cools down.
