El Tatio Geyser, located in the Antofagasta Region of northern Chile, is one of the world’s highest geothermal fields at 4,300 metres above sea level. Visitors can witness spectacular geyser eruptions at dawn, explore fumaroles, hot springs, and mud pools, and enjoy guided tours that highlight the area’s unique geothermal activity. Notably, El Tatio is the largest geyser field in the Southern Hemisphere and the third largest globally, with over 80 active geysers representing around 8% of the world’s total. Its name, meaning “the grandfather who cries”* in the Atacameño Kunza language, reflects its deep cultural and natural significance.
