Located in Venice, Italy, St Mark's Campanile is a 99-metre tower featuring a spire which was once used as a lighthouse for shipping. Built in the 12th century, the tower’s architecture is a combination of all the lagoon area’s campaniles. It was used by Galileo as an observatory and in 1609 he demonstrated his telescope. St Mark's Campanile collapsed in 1902 but was rebuilt and inaugurated in 1912.
