The Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence and is one of the most famous bridges in Italy. Built-in medieval times, this stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge has managed to become one of the city’s most illustrious landmarks. In its long history, it was augmented and rebuilt several times and has also survived World War II. Initially, this bridge housed butchers and fish sellers, however, a few centuries ago it was transformed into a popular tourist attraction, and shops are now focused on selling jewelry, art, and souvenirs.
