Built entirely from marble and known as the shining beacon of modern Athens, Panathenaic Stadium hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The stadium was built on the site of a racecourse by the Athenian statesman, Lykourgos in 330 BC to be used for the Panathenaic Games. Since then, the stadium has hosted the 1896, 1906, 2004 and 2011 Olympic Games, as well as various concerts.
