Known as the "Pompeii of Greece", Akrotiri is a prehistoric village unearthed on the volcanic Greek island of Santorini that perished when a volcanic explosion tore apart the island of Thera, ending the Minoan period. The archaeological site is an ancient Minoan city housed within a protective structure featuring wooden walkways passing through the city. Visitors can view buildings, crumbling roads, its sophisticated drainage system and numerous artefacts, including pottery, all of which offer visitors a glimpse into the lives of the island's past inhabitants. It serves as an ideal base for visitors to explore the surrounding landscape, including the famous archaeological sites dating back to the Bronze Age.
