A premier tourist attraction in Western Australia, this amazing natural phenomenon is created by breaks between the McLarty Ranges that are up to 25 m wide. The Horizontal Falls run horizontally, as opposed to vertically - this is caused by massive tidal movements through the break creating a waterfall effect as water banks up against one side of a narrow cliff passage. Each change of the tide reverses the direction of the falls, creating vast whirlpools on the outgoing side.
