Thanda Private Game Reserve is the proud location of three very different properties, each with its own style, atmosphere and appeal. Thanda Safari Lodge, Thanda's flagship product, is known for its 9 bush suites - each, the height of luxurious exclusivity and African abundance. Villa iZulu, ideal for celebrities and those with a special taste for privacy, is a bush homestead beyond any traditional understanding of extravagance and service. And Thanda Tented Camp, with its 14 grand tents and 1 grande deluxe tent, offers a truly relaxed and authentic safari experience. Step out onto the wooden deck. Take a dip in your heated infinity pool. Enjoy dinner served in a private boma. Or admire the African sunset from the circular daybed atop the thatched outdoor sala. Thanda Safari Lodge is known for its 9 beautiful bush suites – each self-contained for absolute privacy. Shaped like a traditional Zulu homestead, the 220m² suites have panoramic views of the surrounding game reserve. Each suite is a tribute to abundance, Africa-style - with a spacious lounge and majestic master bedroom and double-sided fireplace. The bathroom has a vanity, his-and-hers basins, egg-shaped bath, enclosed toilet as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Thanda Safari Lodge’s public areas are colourful and drenched in light, with touches of beading, welcoming leather and authentic wood. They include an inviting library overlooking a waterhole that is favoured by elephant and other game, a private business centre, a cigar bar and an impressively stocked wine cellar.

The circular architecture of the suites pays homage to traditional Zulu homesteads, blending cultural heritage with contemporary luxury. Zulu guide and a 4x4 safari vehicle for transfers to the local Zulu village. Hosted by the Community Liaison Officer. A contribution towards the Thanda Safari Community Projects is allocated in the per person rate. Available between morning and evening game drives
This activity is hosted by a member of the Wildlife Conservation Team. A contribution towards the Thanda Safari Conservation Projects is allocated in the per person rate. Available at any time of the day and can fit between morning and evening game drives. Activities vary according to what the Conservation Team are working on during your stay.
This activity is hosted by a member of the Rhino Monitoring Team. A contribution towards Thanda’s Rhino Monitoring is allocated in the per person rate. Starting before sunrise, guests will help the team to track and identify the rhinos and learn all about their ecology, the threats to their species, their behaviour, their feeding patterns and much more.
Depart Thanda Safari for a 1½-hour drive to the St. Lucia Estuary followed by a 2-hour cruise to view numerous birds and wildlife, including hippos and crocs.
