Wayo Walking Camp - Central
This walking camp is designed to provide guests with a more immersive experience of the
Serengeti. Lighter on the ground when compared to its bigger sister camp; Serengeti Green
Camp, this adventurous walking camp is able to move more frequently; more closely following
the movements of the herds as they circle through the Serengeti eco system.
Comprised of six star tents and one mess area, this camp provides a quieter more intimate
experience in the environment. Tents are bespoke made with fully gauze sides and roof to
enable guests to feel although they are wild camping in the African plains without compromising
on safety. Sides can be covered in the event of heavy rains and curtains provide privacy if
required.
Despite being small and more adventurous, these tents still benefit from an attached private
bathroom with a bucket shower which is available on request and a compost toilet - keeping
in-line with our commitment to protecting this delicate environment.
Due to its size and light impact, this pioneering camp can be located deeper into wilderness
zones allowing guests to further escape the more commonly used areas of the Serengeti. Our
walks from this camp can be either full day walks or half days and guests loop back to camp.
This region benefits from an interesting topography of undulating kopjes and slopes, open plains
and stunning stretches along the edges of the Orange River all only accessible on foot. All
walks are carried out by a trained Wayo Africa walking guide and a Serengeti Park Ranger.
A variety of walks are available from these camps. Generally your guide will get you up early for
a lite breakfast and hot drink. We try to start walking not long after 06:30. Your guide will find the
most perfect and scenic spot where you will enjoy a bush breakfast he will carry with him. This
will give you a boost of energy around 10am and make the walk back to camp much more
enjoyable. We will aim to have you back in camp for lunch.
There is time for a siesta after lunch and the potential of a shorter walk in the later afternoon
with sundowners. Our walking needs a low to moderate amount of fitness and we seldom exceed more than 10km’s per walk.
