Situated within the Kamitakai District in northern Nagano Prefecture, Obuse is a picturesque little town known for its chestnut confectionery, delicious sake, and traditional Japanese-style buildings. Visitors can look forward to a number of attractions including: the Masuichi Ichimura Sake Brewery offering sake tastings; the Hokusai Museum, exhibiting a collection of work by famous woodblock print artist Hokusai, who created the famous 'Great Wave off Kanagawa', the Ganshoin Temple, featuring a painted ceiling by Hokusai; and the Takai Kozan Memorial Museum, the residence of Hokusai’s patron.
