Shibuya Sky
Shibuya Sky is a modern open-air observation deck located on top of the Shibuya Scramble Square building. Rising 230 metres above the city, it offers sweeping panoramic views across Tokyo and has quickly become one of the capital’s most impressive viewpoints.
From the rooftop platform, you can see landmarks such as Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree and, on clear days, even Mount Fuji in the distance. The space is thoughtfully designed, with glass barriers and open viewing areas that create an immersive but secure experience.
Unlike older enclosed observation decks, Shibuya Sky has a distinctly contemporary feel. The rooftop is spacious and uncluttered, allowing visitors to move freely and enjoy the skyline from multiple angles. Below, the indoor gallery space features digital installations and seating areas.
The experience is particularly memorable around sunset, when the city gradually transitions from daylight to a sea of lights. Watching the illumination spread across Tokyo from above gives a strong sense of the city’s scale.
Located directly above Shibuya Station, Shibuya Sky is easy to access and works well as part of a broader exploration of the Shibuya district.
Expert Tips
Book tickets in advance, especially for sunset time slots, which are the most popular and often sell out several days ahead.
Arrive a little early for your allocated time and be aware that loose items such as hats or scarves may need to be stored in lockers before accessing the rooftop. Wind conditions can vary, so dress accordingly.
