Ryōgoku Kokugikan is an indoor sporting arena located in the Yokoami neighbourhood, bordering the Ryōgoku neighbourhood, of Sumida, one of the 23 wards of Tokyo. Situated next to the Edo-Tokyo Museum, the current building was opened in 1985 and has a capacity of 11,000 people. Ryōgoku Kokugikan is mainly used for sumo wrestling tournaments, or honbasho. It houses a museum about sumo, and hosts the new year Hatsu honbasho in January, the summer Natsu honbasho in May, and the autumn Aki honbasho in September. The venue is also used for boxing, pro wrestling, and music concerts.
