Situated south of Mahajanga in the verdant Boeny Region, Mitsinjo is a quaint rural community that serves as a gateway to the enchanting Mahavy-Kinkony Wetland Complex in western Madagascar. This vast sylvan wonderland is a vibrant ecosystem that encompasses nearly 270 000 hectares and features a natural kaleidoscope of caves, forests, marine bays, mangrove, savannah, marshland, rivers and multiple lakes, including Lake Kinkony, the second largest lake in Madagascar. The area is also a fiercely popular destination for bird lovers as it boasts 143 species of birds, and is the only location where Madagascar’s waterfowl species can be found.
