Located in the southern part of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, George Square dates back to 1766 when it was a popular high-end residential area. Many of the buildings on the square now belong to the University of Edinburg which redeveloped the square in the 1960’s under much protest from the Cockburn Association and the Georgian Group of Edinburg. The square becomes a lively hub of activity during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August each year when the gardens are filled with bars and pop-up venues.
