Runkuraqay is one of the first major ruins encountered on the fascinating Inca Trail leading up to the ancient city of Machu Picchu, in Peru. The archaeological site is located on the southern slope of the Runkuraqay Mountain at an altitude of a little under 4000 meters; its unique circular shape has lead experts to believe it was once an Inca Tambo/inn as the design indicates rooms suitable for people and animals branching off from a central inner courtyard.
