One of the chief attractions in Khajuraho, and very easily accessible, the Parsvanath Temple is one of the largest – and finest – of the Jain temples in the area. It lies within a walled enclosure, and is renowned for the precision of its construction and its exquisite sculptures. The temple has a solid outer wall embellished with three bands of graceful sculptures depicting Hindu gods, while figures of asparas or heavenly nymphs adorn the interior walls. The temple was originally dedicated to the Adinath deity, but in the late 19th century, an image of Parsvanath was installed and the temple assumed its new name.
