Golden monkey trekking is a unique and exciting experience in the lush forests of Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. These playful primates, characterized by their striking golden-orange fur and contrasting black limbs, are a rare sight, with only a small population remaining in the world. The trek typically begins at 7:00 AM with a briefing at the park headquarters, followed by a guided walk through bamboo forests and montane vegetation. Visitors can expect to spend 2 to 4 hours searching for one of the habituated groups, which can number up to 100 individuals. Once located, you’ll have an hour to observe their fascinating behaviors, such as grooming and playing. This thrilling adventure not only offers a chance to see these endangered monkeys up close but also provides insights into their social structures and habitats.
