Located in Faro in Portugal, the Cathedral of Faro is a Roman Catholic cathedral that was consecrated in the name of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the late 13th century by the Archbishop of Braga. The cathedral is built on the remains of an ancient Paleochristian basilica that had been converted into a mosque. Since 1540, the cathedral has been the seat of the Diocese of Faro and is considered a National Monument of Portugal.
