Gangtey Monastery is a sacred Buddhist site located on a hilltop overlooking the Phobjikha Valley in central Bhutan. It is the main seat of the Pema Lingpa tradition, a branch of the Nyingmapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery was founded in 1613 by Gyalse Pema Thinley, a grandson of the famous treasure-finder Pema Lingpa. The monastery is known for its elaborate architecture, rich history, and cultural significance. It is also a popular destination for nature lovers, as it offers stunning views of the valley and its wildlife, especially the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate here every winter. Visitors can explore the monastery complex, attend the annual festivals, or hike along the scenic trails around the valley.
